Keel-less

Apart from the reefed down main, JP Dick's Virbac Paprec looks pretty normal as it approaches the finish line of the Vendee Globe.

But it is in far from normal sailing configuration. Because it is missing a crucial structure: the keel.

Vendee winner Francois Gabart may have set a sub-80 day record for lapping the planet solo on a monohull. But Dick did something even more impressive. He sailed a record 2650 miles without his keel, to take fourth place. That's seamanship, and determination.

Incroyable.
